Black & White Challenge Update ~ Diane's Vintage Zest!

Black & White Challenge Update

*Update* See the finished garment here!

Here I am in London, and having been inspired by all of the fashion, I am positive that I am totally redoing my challenge garment. If you're not familiar with the challenge, read this post for the info on my sewing group on Facebook, and the Spring 2013 Black & White challenge. Remember, I get back just a couple of days before our deadline, so I'm going to beat my jet lag by working on this project!

I started with some houndstooth fabric and black knit, and used Simplicity 1699 to create a houndstooth peplum with black side panels and collar.

Here are the questionable results...

It doesn't look too bad on the hanger really, but I don't like a ton of things about it.

1. The sleeve length is very strange (although I haven't hemmed them yet).

2. The collar actually resembles a bow tie for some reason. Not cute at all!

3. The peplum is a bit short for me, and it looks even shorter than on the pattern envelope!

Well, when I get back home, I definitely want to bring the sleeves in. I'm also thinking about removing the collar altogether and making it a scoop neck instead. Hopefully the peplum length will end up looking longer after the adjustments, but we'll see.

Any suggestions from you guys?
